PETER LINK, composer, lyricist, record producer, orchestrator, is CEO and Creative Director of WATCHFIRE MUSIC, an Inspirational record label and on-line store [www.watchfiremusic.com] and is now dedicating a great majority of his time and creativity to the development of the Inspirational genre of music production. He also is an artist with the company and has a number of CDs to his credit.
With that in mind, he has created new CDs for Julia Wade, WINGS, SILK ROAD, DEEP WATERS, SOLOS, AFIRMATIONS, EVERY DAY, STORY FOR THE AGES and UPON THE MOUNTAIN and Jenny Burton, THE BEST OF JENNY BURTON, I THINK ON THESE THINGS and RELEASED, and in the last five years produced and composed for thirty different Inspirational CDs for Watchfire Music. He directed JOY RIDE, an Inspirational concert of Watchfire Music artists in June of 2006 in New York City and The WATCHFIRE MUSIC LISTENING ROOM, a 4 year series of sold out concerts in both New York City and Summit, NJ’s Mondo Arts Center.
He has recently released his own CD, MIRACLE OF FAITH, with Julia Wade and 12-year old wunderkind, Noah Marlowe. Soon to be released are Noah Marlowe’s first solo album, INVENTIONS OF THE MIND, and Julia Wade’s DUETS: WOMAN 2 WOMAN and her solo CD, CERTAINTIES all produced by Link.
He is also in the throes of writing and producing IS ANYBODY LISTENING?, a Theatrical Concert and Webcast for NYC’s Sheen Center which will debut in February of 2016.
LINK is best known for his work as a composer. He has won the NY DRAMA DESK AWARD for his work in SALVATION, out of which came his first Gold Record, IF YOU LET ME MAKE LOVE TO YOU, THEN WHY CAN’T I TOUCH YOU? that sold over two million records. He is a two-time Tony Award Nominee both for his musical score of Joseph Papp’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, which was presented at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park, on Broadway and also as a CBS Television Special, and for his score for Neil Simon’s THE GOOD DOCTOR.
His musical concert, THE RIVER swept the off-Broadway TOR AWARDS as not only Best Musical, but also won for Mr. Link Best Director and Best Composer/Lyricist. Mr. Link also served as Composer-in-Residence at the New York Shakespeare Festival for several years where he wrote the score for many shows — some of which include IPHIGENIA, OLDER PEOPLE, THE ORPHAN, COMEDY OF ERRORS, and TRELAWNEY OF THE WELLS at Lincoln Center (Meryl Streep, Michael Tucker, Mandy Patinkin, John Lithgow). His Broadway credits include ULYSSES IN NIGHTTOWN starring Zero Mostel, LYSISTRATA starring Melina Mercouri, THE MIGHTY GENTS starring Morgan Freeman, and KING OF HEARTS.
One of Mr. Link’s great loves is his work in the pop music world. As a songwriter, record producer, artistic director, and sometimes performer, he keeps his finger on the pulse of the times through many various activities. As a recording artist himself, he released his CD, GOIN’ HOME – On Heaven and Beyond. This follows both THRU ME, The songs of Peter Link, CHARIOT – Gospel Cantata and ODE TO JOY.
He orchestrated and produced a CD for the pre-Broadway production of AFRICA PLUMBRIDGE a new musical out of Chicago. Also he produced the studio cast recording of his western musical, SUNDOWN, which won rave reviews and was named one of the Top Ten Best Theatrical Albums of 2004 – Jonathan Frank, Talking Broadway.
He has also recently finished producing five new CDs – Metropolitan Opera star OSCEOLA DAVIS’ CLIMBING HIGH MOUNTAINS, COMING HOME, an inspirational album for MINDY JOSTYN, a solo CD for STEVE BLANCHARD, star of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST on Broadway, an inspirational CD for guitarist Bobby Stanton entitled SHEPHERD, AWAKENINGS for Nitya Thomas and a new CD of children’s songs entitled FOR KIDS ONLY.
He has also been most instrumental in directing the career of JENNY BURTON and composing, producing and directing THE JENNY BURTON EXPERIENCE. This Pop / Inspirational / R&B act has broken all box office records playing to packed houses in their seven year run in New York City. The group swept all the major cabaret awards for BEST VOCAL GROUP including the Backstage Bistro Award, The Critics Choice Award and The MAC Award. He has also written and produced many of the songs for her albums.
He produced an album for opera star Frederica Von Stade. Mr. Link also wrote and produced three songs for Harry Belafonte’s movie BEAT STREET. In an earlier life his songs were also recorded by Johnnie Mathis, Dionne Warwick, Peggy Lee and even Mae West. He also built and owned Westrax Recording Studios, a dynamic analog/digital/midi recording studio in New York City. He owns Westrax Publishing, and is presently producing his own music at Link Recording Studios in New York.
In addition to composing for the theatre, Mr. Link has written the film scores for several Movies of the Week for television, NIGHTMARE with Richard Crenna and Patty Duke, THE GREAT NIAGARA with Richard Boone and ENORMOUS CHANGES AT THE LAST MINUTE for presentation on Home Box Office. Mr. Link also wrote and produced three songs for Harry Belafonte’s movie BEATSTREET and a song for the movie RAPPIN’. He also created and wrote the title song and theme music for VEGETABLE SOUP, the popular children’s television show on racism that has run since 1975 on both NBC and NET and for which he won several ASIFA Animation Awards. He also composed and performed the scores for HIGH FEATHER, a children’s television series on nutrition. He has also contributed to other programming for children including SESAME STREET, THE ELECTRIC COMPANY and THE BIG BLUE MARBLE.
In 1976 he extended his musical influence to the ballet world, orchestrating, arranging and composing from Stephen Foster themes for the Joffrey Ballet Company’s bicentennial ballet DRUMS, DREAMS AND BANJOS.
As a director he wrote and directed JOSH, a one man musical about the late Josh White starring his son Josh White Jr., the four highly successful productions of WAITIN’ IN THE WINGS: The Night The Understudies Take Stage and ISLAND his own musical. In addition to this he produced, wrote with Al Pacino and directed WITH HEARTFELT THANKS – A TRIBUTE TO LEE STRASBERG at Lincoln Center which featured over thirty major stars and CLOSE UPON THE HOUR, a benefit evening for the American Run for the End of Aids featuring his songs and starring all of the top New York cabaret stars. He also recently directed the MOVIE GUIDE AWARDS for television in Hollywood.
Mr. Link began his career in New York studying acting at The Neighborhood Playhouse with Sanford Meisner. He still teaches the Auditions course there every spring and has done so for the past twenty-five years. Upon graduation he immediately won a long-running major role on CBS’s AS THE WORLD TURNS. He performed in a number of national network commercials and played the lead in HAIR on Broadway and the lead in his own SALVATION. He also played a feature role in the film THE OUT-OF-TOWNERS with Jack Lemmon.
He presently has a number of exciting projects on the boards. His western musical, SUNDOWN, has been work-shopped at the ASCAP/Disney workshops in NYC and in May of 2002 had its world premier receiving rave reviews at the Lyric Stage in Dallas. It played a two-month run at the Barter Theater in Virginia in the spring of 2003 and received a new presentation in March of 2008 at The Adobe Theater in New Mexico.
His revival of KING OF HEARTS was performed to rave reviews at the Goodspeed Opera in the fall of 2002 and is performed constantly all over the world.
